CLIFTON STREET COMMUNITY MURAL
Painting completed with Clifton Street Community, Cardiff, UK
I took part in the Clifton Street Festival, a festival organised by NoFitState Circus to celebrate the diverse community that is Adamstown, Splott, Tremorfa and Roath in Cardiff, the capital of Wales. I was commissioned to make an interactive mural that would involve the community. I asked passers by if they could write a word that describes the festival for them, how they are feeling or just a positive message they would like to share.
I have found that collaborative art projects foster a sense of unity and shared purpose, strengthening social bonds within the community. The process of working together towards a common artistic goal encourages communication, cooperation and a sense of belonging among participants. This can lead to increased community pride and a greater sense of empowerment. Also, involving a community in a collective painting project sparks intergenerational interactions and bridges cultural divides.
