TGP REFUGEE YOUTH GROUP

Mural completed with the TGP refugee youth group

This mural was completed with the TGP refugee youth group in Cardiff, UK. All the participants are classed as unaccompanied minors, meaning that they are 18 years old or younger and came to the UK without their families. I asked the young people to write in the background either: 'hopes/dreams for the future' or 'something that is important to you'. I have had some of the text in the background translated. Some of the words featured are: 'Freedom' 'Life' 'Afghanistan' 'Mum' and 'Dad' and many more themes and in many different languages. Engaging in mural creation can facilitate cultural exchange and dialogue among diverse young participants. This interaction fosters understanding, breaks down barriers, and builds bridges between different backgrounds. Collaborative art can encourage connections and friendships among young people. The shared experience of creating something meaningful together forms the basis for a supportive community within a new environment. Participating in a collaborative mural fosters a sense of belonging and inclusion within the host community. The completed artwork becomes a visible representation of their presence and contributions.
